Stop watching cloud security. Start doing it.

I'm Mad Hat and I built this place because every course I saw taught the same way. You watch a video, read boring text, take a quiz, and collect a certificate that effectively proves you sat through it all. No real environment. No idea what an attack looks like from the inside much less how to defend against one. You memorize buzzwords and then a week later forget it all. So I built the opposite: real Azure tenants, real breaches to hunt, and labs that treat you like an operator instead of an audience.

What Mad Hat Labs actually is

Mad Hat Labs is a hands-on cloud security range. You do NOT watch someone else drive and then answer questions on how THEY did something. You get dropped into a live Azure environment, handed a real misconfiguration or a simulated breach, and told to work it from both sides. How to think and break in like an attacker, then turn around and catch it like a defender.

You rank up as an Operative by capturing flags hidden in real services, not by guessing on multiple choice. Every lab is something a working cloud security professional actually gets paid to do.

Who's under the hat

Mad Hat is the founder and lead operative behind Mad Hat Labs. I've spent nearly two decades working with computers. From humble beginnings, I started working in retail customer service where I learned the often overlooked soft skills that I used to land several roles in IT support. Then after graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, I landed my first role as a Security Analyst for a Fortune 500 company. Around that time I started my YouTube channel Mad Hat, where I create, what I consider, much more entertaining videos that educate on all things IT and Cybersecurity. After working a few years as an analyst I pivoted into my current role as a Cloud Security Engineer where I assist in managing over a dozen clients cloud infrastructure and entire security tech stack.

I spent too long watching people pay for training that never once let them touch a real environment, so I built the thing I always wanted. Everything here is written by a human who has done the work, not generated, not recycled from docs, not padded to fill a runtime.

What you'll actually do

Not slides. The real Azure portal, real labs, and the logs you will be hunting through.

// THE DIFFERENCE //

Why this beats another video course

Most platforms hand you a playlist and a multiple choice quiz. You watch someone else click around, memorize a few answers, and walk away with a certificate that proves nothing. Nobody ever lets you touch the environment. Mad Hat Labs runs the other way. You get a live Azure tenant, a real problem to solve, and logs to dig through. Every lab aims to show both sides: run the attack, then detect it. You prove you did the work by capturing a flag buried in a real service, not by clicking Next until a progress bar fills up.

Real environments

You operate inside an actual Azure tenant we spin up for you. Nothing is faked with screenshots.

Offense and defense

Labs teach you to run the attack and then catch it in the logs. Most courses only ever show you one side of the fight.

Flags, not filler

You prove it by capturing a flag hidden in the real service. No multiple choice, no participation trophies.

Written by an operator

No filler, no recycled docs, no death by slideshow. Just someone who has done the work explaining how it actually goes.
